Hello Steve and welcome from Albany, New York. You've come to the best place possible for navigation issues, these guys know their stuff.

Hi Steve, have you any idea just what you have let yourself in for? I have been working with youngsters now for 16 years and during this time I have aged 32 years ;)

Welcome to a great forum :)

Hi Steve...
All you have to remember is that kids know everything and then you can take it from there.
Welcome to an excellent forum.

Welcome Steve, my Scouting days were some of my happiest and I have often been surprised in later life just how many times I have thought to myself 'Oh yes, when i was a Scout I did it this way!’ Great work, good on you:)

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the forum

from another Steve...and another Scout Leader (for 25 or so years) ...AND also from (near) Manchester!

I like an old quotation that goes something like "accept wisdom wherever it comes from" (can't remember the actual words but the principle is right)

So I'd say, be happy to learn from your Scouts - you can then be in a position to pass that on to the next batch you get coming through!

Hello,

Welcome! My name is Steve and I live in Denver, CO. I am new too! Don't feel bad. I am pretty Wilderness savy, but I learned quite a bit of new techniques from Lyle's book! There is always something new to learn in life! Great site & forum.

Best Wishes,

Steve F.-Denver, CO USA

Welcome Steve :)

In answer to you mail, no Anquet do not produce maps for the USA, my recomendation and the software I use when in the States is TopoPointUSA and is the one I feature in the UNM.

I like this software becasue USGS topographic maps are available for the entire continental US and large parts of Alaska and Hawaii at 1:24000.  (In my opinion the 1:24000 is the best scale for wilderness navigation).
