I have been thinking about the merits of Garmin’s new eTrex 10 for a while and decided that it is not worth the money - £100 at Cotswold 28122012

Alternatively, a brand new eTrex 20 is £80 more than the eTrex 10 at Cotswold, yet offers so much more than the 10, because it has on screen mapping (£20 of which comes with the unit).

Just for info: I see online shops that sell the eTrex 20 (no maps included) for 160 euro, which is about 130 GBP.

Lyle, I agree with what you have said, but as this was a gift I shall make the best of it and once I have advanced my knowledge and skills I'm sure that I will be able to invest in something a little more advanced.  Many thanks for your advice.
Claire. :)

Claire, I was torn to post this, knowing you already had one.  Manufacturers are always keen for me to try out their new models,  so when you are ready to move up PM me please and I will see what I can do for you :)
