I have recently been given the new Otter ARMOR smartphone case protection for my Samsung Galaxy S3.
On opening the package I was initially put off by its sheer size, it is not shirt pocket size! Also fitting my S3 into the case was not as straight-forward as it appeared it should be. However, I am glad that I did not let these small nuisances deter me
The case does what it says on the tin:Waterproof – somewhere in-between IPx7 – IPX8. This is because Otter cases are built to meet
U.S. Military Standards, which differ slightly for ingress protection (
particulates/water) so the ARMOR case can be immersed in 6’6” of water for up to 30 minutes (
IPX7 defines a case which can withstand accidental immersion in 1 metre or 3’3” of water for up to 30 minutes and IPX8 designation is for continuous underwater use).
Zero particulate ingress, in other words dust will not get into the case.
It is drop tested to 10’ (3m) This test requires the case is free dropped from a height of 10’ onto a level concrete surface.
Crush tested to 2 tons (1.8 tonnes) so the case will survive a car driving over it!
So far, it has lived up to all of its claims – very good:)
Footnote: I am also running the new ViewRanger satnav software (
Version 4) on my S3 and will write a separate review for this.
