Ordnance Survey Story - BBC4

For anyone interested I've just noticed that BBC 4 is showing 'A Very British Map: The Ordnance Survey Story' next Wednesday 9 September 9pm - 10pm -

"The history of a quintessentially British institution, which was formed in 1791, originally for military reasons before becoming a valuable tool in peacetime for ramblers and adventurers. Timeshift examines how the OS is adjusting to the digital age, with the large folding maps now just a small part of its output.'

Hugh Westacott:
You beat me to it, Ian!

I have a small part in the programme supposedly demonstrating how walkers use Ordnance Survey maps. I can easily be identified as the the only geriatric dwarf in the clip.

For a preview of the 5th edition of my book The Walker’s Handbook; Everything you Need to Know about Walking in the British Isles click on Then click on ‘Reviews of The Walker’s Handbook in the Navigation panel to the right of the illustration of the cover.
